The Rock ‘n’ Roll Institute of North America
Rock and Roll has a storied history, with its roots in African American Rhythm and Blues (R&B) music. The term came into wider use when Alan Freed began using it on his radio program in 1951 to describe the R&B he was playing on his program. In 1955, Billy Haley’s Rock Around the Clock became the first rock ‘n’ roll song to reach #1 on the Billboard chart. This is now a mature style of music. Isn’t it time we showed rock ‘n’ roll a little RESPECT? Rock ‘n’ roll has the history, the various styles, the popularity across all age groups and is so integrated into our culture that the wealth of this great music can be taught in a manner similar to the methods to teach the classics, only much more fun!
For years parents would say that they wish to have their child learn the fundamentals of their instrument in the classical style – while in the other ear we hear the student crying out for rock lessons. Classics and rock ’n’ roll can live harmoniously, side by side, and be studied concurrently. The graded method for classical lessons have been prescribed for many years through internationally recognized institutions. Unfortunately there has not been a graded course for rock ‘n’ roll like this one!
This course from The Rock ‘N’ Roll Institute of North America, has been researched since 2009, drawing on the expertise of top professionals and teachers in the music industry. It is a course that takes the beginner all the way to an advanced level. All of the pieces explore the various styles of rock – rock ‘n’ roll, heavy metal, pop, fusion and many more. By studying with us, you will learn ear training, sight reading and improvisation which are used as building blocks to create a well-rounded musician. Check out the bios of your favourite musicians and you will see a classical base. That’s what establishes the “chops” of playing.
The course starts with Grade 1 material, but in a nod to the guitar heroes, the program goes to 11!
The Rock ’N’ Roll Institute of North America kicks off in 2025.
